Saltwort
Sarcocornia fruticosa
Saltwort is a small, highly branched shrub. It has straight branches with small scale shaped leaves that form rings throughout the plant. Its characteristic colour is sea-green and dim.
Saltwort RiaFresh® fleshy tips can be eaten fresh, in salads or soups, or boiled. Its slightly bitter flavour makes it a great ingredient to prepare sauces for meat or fish dishes. It is surprising when used with eggs or milanesa.
Properties
Saltwort RiaFresh® is rich in proteins, dietary fibers, vitamin B6, potassium, magnesium and chromium. It is a source of calcium, iron and manganese and contains ß-carotene, lutein, phenols, flavonoids and tannins. It is rich in magnesium; it has almost as much magnesium as nuts.

Availability and conservation
Saltwort RiaFresh® is available all year round, sliced and fresh. It can be stored at 3 to 7 °C for up to 15 days.
