Miguel Salazar is PhD Agricultural Engineering from the University of Lleida (2001, Spain). Consultant in agronomy since 2003 with experience in quality control tests and improvement of agri-food products and processes. He has been a collaborator in the Department of the Environment, in the Department of Agriculture and in the Institute of Research and Agrifood Technology (IRTA) of Catalonia, in the company Applus (Agrifood and Certification) and in various engineering. Member of several research centers (ICAAM, University of Évora; CDCTPV, University of Algarve; CICAE, INUAF-Loulé) with participation in more than fifteen national and international research projects, author of more than one hundred scientific and technical publications and communications, is the founder and manager of the Agro-On company and the RiaFresh® marine vegetable brand.
Work with sea vegetables
2011-2014: development of the main task of the ALG-02-0931 FEDER-000022 project “Sustainable cultivation of halophytes in the Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António Reserve”.
Results: model of marine vegetable cultivation associated with production in salt pans and marshes.
2016-2020: Project leader ALG-01-0247-FEDER-017676 “XtremeGourmet Extremophile Plants in Gourmet Cuisine” in consortium with the University of the Algarve.
Results: establishment of objective quality standards; diversification of the species produced; culture optimization; determination of organoleptic and qualitative properties, proximal composition and functional composition; extension of the production period and commercial life.
2021-2022: consultant in the GREENFLOAT21 project promoted by ARQUIMEA Advanced Research Center S.L.U (Tenerife, Spain). The main objective of the project is the research and development of biotechnology for the remediation of marine environments from halophytic plants, with other potential uses, preferably food.
2015-Present: production and marketing of marine vegetables from the Ria Formosa Natural Park under the RiaFresh® brand. Soilless hydroponic cultivation in greenhouses with recirculation of nutrient solution.
